A laundry list of Virginia activist groups are coming together to support President Barack Obama's budget.

Jewel Royal is one of those supporters. She works at a Virginia nursing home as a certified nurse's assistant. She hurt her back on the job and doesn't have insurance.

"I have no medical coverage," she said in an interview. "I have a bunch of bills, a bunch of doctor bills."

With more than $100,000 in medical bills, Royal tried to get insurance on her own.

Pressuring the Blue Dogs

Progressive groups have pressured Republican lawmakers to support President Obama's economic agenda since he first announced his stimulus intentions before the new year; now the pressure is on Blue Dog Democrats.

It also started robocalls targeting the members last week. The members are Reps. Marion Berry (AK), Allen Boyd (FL), Charlie Melancon (LA), and Chet Edwards (TX).

Raleigh rally backs Obama budget

RALEIGH -- Supporters of the President's three and a half trillion dollar budget rallied in downtown Raleigh Thursday.

Members of the Conservation Council of NC, Environment NC, The Arc of NC, Black Women's Caucus, ACORN, NC State AFL-CIO, and some state legislators took part.

They say the plan will rebuild and renew America by pumping money into healthcare and education. But critics say three and a half trillion dollars is just too much on top of bailouts and stimulus money.

One state representative says it's a tough call.

The following national organizations have signed on to the statement of principles of responsible and fair taxation and funding investments for the common good.
