Groups lobby Rep. Edwards to support President Obama's budget

Several nonprofit special-interest groups are urging members of the House Budget Committee to vote in favor of President Barack Obama’s proposed 2010 budget this week.

U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, has already been the target of two grassroots campaigns advocating the passage of the $3.6 trillion budget.

Representatives from Greenpeace, Environment Texas, Health Care for America Now and the Baylor University student campaign No New Coal held a small rally in front of Edward’s Waco office Wednesday morning. The groups are part of Americans United for Change, a national coalition of more than 80 environmental, education and health care advocacy groups.

“Congressman Edwards has always voted and acted in the interests of his constituents and their well-being,” said Jesse Romero of Health Care for America Now. “We just want to encourage him to continue to act on behalf of Texans, Americans and his constituents and vote in favor of this bill.”
